Residential Private Residence Upper West Side My Clients have called their beautiful pre-war coop on the Upper West Side of Manhattan home for over 20 years. They originally requested a simple upgrade of the finishes in the Master Bathroom. After meeting with the Designer to establish a ‘big picture’ understanding of their needs, the project became a multi-stage renovation which reflected their long-term goals and lifestyle needs. It was time to deal with such ‘quirky’ elements of the apartment as its existing riser pipes and plumbing to make the space more functional. The goal was to be sensitive to the architecture of the building as well as the personalities of the people who inhabited the space. The design, white-on-white scheme, became a sophisticated layering of texture and light. Multiple shapes, sizes and varieties of tiles gave the very narrow, long space a greater depth of interest, creating the impression of light and openness. Ultimately, the Master bathroom design concept was so successful in meeting the client’s vision, that a version of it was implemented into the family bathroom and the kitchen design is now under design.
