Full Apartment Renovation
Gramercy Park
New York, New York
The Foundry, as it is known today, was constructed in the early 1900's and was converted to residences in the 1970's. The building has a beautiful beaux-arts façade and the apartments have dramatic vertical space and 12+ foot undulating ceilings. However, the apartment had not been renovated in 35+ years so a full gut renovation was called for.
Due to the restraints of the Co-op and the existing buildings risers, the floor plan had to remain virtually unchanged, however the space was able to open up through the innovative use of shared storage to combine areas within areas, re-wiring electrical and putting down new flooring in the kitchen area to make it feel part of the whole.
The design concept of 'Contemporary Moroccan' – which was created from the cultures sense of hearth and home, plus the love of all modern and contemporary design, resulted in a sleek, zestful space conveyed through the creative use of unique finishes such as concrete, Venetian plaster and metallic paints, plus the dramatic use of intense colors dispersed with neutrals.
